Review

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my review of the movie Arthur. This is a movie that has been around for a while but still resonates with people today. It is a tale that teaches us about the importance of family values, self-discovery, and acceptance. I am thrilled to be sharing my thoughts on this masterpiece in the way that Brenรฉ Brown would.

The storyline of this movie follows the life of Arthur Bach (Russell Brand), who is an alcoholic playboy born into immense wealth. He lives his life carefree without any sense of responsibility until he is forced to make a decision between his love interest Naomi (Greta Gerwig) or his inheritance. What follows is an emotional journey of self-discovery where Arthur realizes what truly matters in life – love and family values.

The plot is well designed, moving from one situation to another with ease, pulling you into the core of the story and its characters. It brings out emotions such as laughter, joy, sadness, anger, fear and then ends with hope. The development of relationships between characters is exceptional as we see the growth in affection from Arthur towards Naomi which leads him into making tough decisions.

The cast for this movie was superbly picked; Russell Brand played Arthur Bach’s character perfectly – he was convincing as an alcoholic playboy but also showed vulnerability when needed most. Greta Gerwig was equally fantastic with her representation of Naomi – she portrayed her character as smart, sassy and independent really well.

A fact often overlooked about this movie is its historical significance. It was released in 2011 and gave us a glimpse into how our society viewed wealth – we can see how money can be both a blessing and a curse depending on how it is used or perceived.

One quote from this movie that always sticks with me is when Arthur says: “I don’t have any friends; I have acquaintances.” This line shows how lonely he feels, despite the amount of money he has.

The acting and characters in this movie are excellent and complimented by an equally exceptional score popularized by Christopher Cross’s song “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)” which won an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song. It adds another dimension to the already excellent cinematography, making it a must-watch film.

Filming was done mostly on location in New York City with the use of several iconic landmarks like Central Park, Plaza Hotel and others. The film generated a lot of buzz (which eventually translated into box office success) due to the combination of excellent production value, editing, and superb dialogue.

Arthur was also well received on its release as it won several awards ranging from best comedy at both the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. The movie’s production saw collaboration between many crews from different parts of the world, bringing together remarkable international talent.

One of my favourite scenes from this movie is when Arthur dresses up as Batman to attend a dinner party – it’s funny but also shows how much he cares about Naomi’s happiness.

Finally, in terms of criticism, Arthur has been criticized for its portrayal of alcoholism. Some say that it trivializes or makes light of the struggles that people battling addiction face daily.

Nevertheless, I recommend that you watch this movie without any preconceived notions – it is a touching story with excellent actors who do justice to their roles. It is a movie that reminds us about the importance of love, family values, self-discovery and acceptance while being entertaining at the same time.

In conclusion, Arthur is a masterpiece that stands out amongst all romantic comedies ever made. It combines all elements needed for a great movie- superb casting; perfect plot development ending with hope; fantastic score which even got an award; breathtaking cinematography with iconic landmarks used as location and awesome dialogue written complemented by great editing work, and most importantly, the ability to teach important life lessons by entertaining its viewers. I highly recommend it as a must-watch movie – enjoy!
