Review
Oh, good people of the theatre, lend me your ears! For I have a tale to tell that shall rivet your attention and sweetly sing to your hearts like a lark in the morning. A story of love, deceit, and tragedy that shall enthrall you, from Act I to Act V.
Behold! The movie is Blue Jasmine –a masterpiece in its own right! A tale that shows us the fatal consequences of greed and deception. Indeed, this movie is not for the faint-hearted. Blue Jasmine will break your heart into pieces and leave you weeping for days.
The storyline is one that will touch every person’s soul. It tells the story of a beautiful woman named Jasmine French who had everything a person could wish for: wealth, beauty, intelligence and most importantly, a perfect life with her husband Hal. However, as fate would have it, Hal’s fraudulent schemes caught up with him –leaving Jasmine bankrupt and alone.
Indeed, life can be cruel sometimes. And so we see Jasmine struggle with her new reality as she moves in with her sister Ginger played by the talented Sally Hawkins. In doing so she must abandon her former life of luxury and attempt to start anew.
As the plot thickens we see how Jasmine tries to climb back up from her ruins: seizing opportunities but at the same time causing chaos in other people’s lives – all while struggling with her own demons.
The cast was impeccable! Cate Blanchett played Jasmine exquisitely portraying every detail of her character’s triumphs and downfalls alike. She was graceful yet ruthless –as if she was born to play this role alone!
But what about Alec Baldwin? He too delivered an extraordinary performance playing Hal French –Jasmine’s ex-husband who left scars on everyone who came into contact with him.
And let us not forget our supporting actors: Sally Hawkins as Ginger was delightful making sure every scene she was in had us laughing, and Louis C.K who popped up from time to time to add his wit to the mix.
Blue Jasmine has garnered numerous awards including a Golden Globe for Best Actress to Cate Blanchett. And with good reason! The score and cinematography melded perfectly creating a tapestry of sound and image that managed to convey every emotion.
Kudos must go out to the crew for their hard work – without them Blue Jasmine would be just another movie. The special effects team did an excellent job, adding suspense and depth when it mattered most.
But let us not forget the dialogue; it was crisp and poignant -a rare breed these days in movies. And oh, the scene where Jasmine finally admits her husband’s deceit –that moment had me on the edge of my seat! It was as if Shakespeare himself had penned it!
True, there were moments where some may have felt it lagged or that the characters could have been more fleshed out; but really, those moments were few and far between.
In conclusion, I say this: Blue Jasmine is a film that every person should watch at least once in their lifetime. It will take you on an emotional ride like no other – from despair to hope. A true masterpiece with intricate plots that will leave you wondering long after the credits roll.
So go ahead! Take a chance on Blue Jasmine! You won’t regret it!
