The movie takes an unflinching look at the pervasive culture of abuse and harassment in the entertainment industry.

The Assistant tells the story of Jane (Julia Garner), a young woman who works as an assistant to a powerful film executive in New York City. The audience follows Jane throughout her day as she runs errands for her boss, answers phone calls, and tends to various tasks around the office.
