Review
O, gentle readers, listen to this tale of a family famed for their love of wildlife, adventure and exploration. Nay, not just any family but the Thornberrys, who are renowned for their travels to all corners of the globe and for spreading knowledge about nature and its wonders.
Their journey takes them far and wide, from the depths of the jungle to the desolate savannah plains. They are led by Eliza Thornberry, a young girl with a unique gift – the ability to communicate with animals. Her companions include her parents Nigel and Marianne Thornberry, her rebellious teenage sister Debbie and her mischievous chimpanzee friend Darwin.
But lo! As good things must come to an end, so too does their joyous adventure. The family’s latest expedition takes them to Africa where they witness a group of poachers capturing a herd of elephants. Eliza tries to intervene but is caught by the poachers. She then discovers that they intend to sell the elephants to a group of circuses.
In her attempt to save the elephants from this cruel fate, she is forced to use her powers in front of strangers. This leads to much distress amongst her family members as well as amongst fellow travelers who witness Eliza’s gift first hand.
As if that wasn’t enough drama already upon them, Eliza’s attempts at helping only make matters worse when Debbie accidentally flings Darwin into the wilds with no hope of return! What will happen next? Will our beloved Thornberrys find their way out of this mess?
The Wild Thornberrys Movie is full of such twists and turns in its plot that keep one on edge throughout its entirety. It is not merely an ordinary film for children but captures both adult and child audiences alike through its intricate storyline.
The film also showcases some notable talents in its cast – Lacey Chabert as Eliza Thornberry, Tim Curry as Nigel Thornberry, and Flea as Donnie Thornberry, amongst others. The actors’ performances are commendable in how they bring life to the characters through their remarkable voice acting.
The film’s score too is noteworthy – composed by Drew Neumann and Paul Simon, it perfectly adds to the movie’s adventurous atmosphere. The opening number, “Father and Daughter,” especially stands out with its melodious tune.
Despite being an animated feature, The Wild Thornberrys Movie has still managed to leave a mark in history. It stands today as a cult classic in the realm of animated films for both adults and children alike.
Its popularity has also led to its becoming part of the greater Nickelodeon franchise with multiple spinoffs and TV shows following it. This is a testament to how much the world adores this family’s adventures that continue even after all these years.
Even the filming of this movie is no less than impressive in how it captures every minute detail of nature such that it embraces its aura of beauty. The animation firms like Klasky Csupo have done well in ensuring that every animal depicted appeared alive with their distinct voices and behaviorisms.
However, some critics pointed out that it primarily lacks originality in its visuals while borrowing from Disney’s concept of mixing human adventurers with animals (referring to Tarzan).
Despite this, most wholesome onlookers acknowledge how welll received the film was for tackling environmental themes such as poaching and animal extinction. In many ways it anticipated modern societies’ growing concerns about protecting wildlife habitats whilst realizing the importance of conservation & sustainability.
As Shakespeare said in his great works; “All the world’s a stage”, so too did Wild Thornberrys showcase various cinematic techniques that added depth to characters aiding in portraying important messages behind this classic tale.
In conclusion, I say unto thee- if thou art ever searching for a family-fun adventure film that portrays nature at its best in cinematic history, look no further than The Wild Thornberrys Movie.
